Fridays are the day I plan to share with you things I have found. They may or may not be related to building websites. They will be related in some way to photography and business.

Here are today’s finds:

Do you ever wonder about selling gift cards and the rules that you need to be aware of? If so this is the site for you. It lists each states requirements for a business that sells a gift card.

Do you have a polaroid? Did you stock up on film when they stopped production? Did you miss out and worry that you will never be able to find one? If so worry no more they are coming out with a new polaroid camera and it is going to use the same film, the 600. This means you can dust off your old one or head out and get a new one. Check out the new polaroid

Motivation can come in a variety of ways. Sometimes, it’s looking at a site, sometimes it’s seeing something outside and knowing you just have to shoot an image a certain way, others your motivation can come from other places.

Recently I had the privilege of attending a workshop run by TriCoast.

The amount of learning that happens amazing. It starts from the first minute you arrive and does not end until you walk out the door. Mike, Cody and Suzy, team, answer your questions and patiently wait for you to “get” it when teaching you OCF.

The workshop is completely hands on and allows you to try two different methods of OCF, using Master units and Slaves along with Radio Poppers (more on those another day because honestly they truly changed how I think about using OCF).

The best part is that if you are not able to attend one of thier workshops you can still learn their technique by reading their new TTL Flash Book. Tri coast has said that the book is literally their class in a book. I am so excited. I am a visual learner and need those diagrams to help me remember what to do — so I signed up for their pre-sale~~~ Can’t wait to get my book in the next couple of weeks an read it!~

So for today my motivation is waiting for my book to arrive — but for a Monday that’s a pretty good motivator~!~

Till next time

Right now everyone is in the middle of their busy season. Weather you do families, high school seniors or weddings summer into fall can be the busiest time of the year for photographers. One of the most important parts of your work-flow is getting images online and into the hands of your clients.

Along with being busy means that you need to maximize your work-flow and streamline things. One of the biggest complaints I have about our client gallery is that there are not file names on the images. I know that this is one thing we are looking to fix, but in the mean time I want to have them there NOW.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, while I was talking to a friend, she mentioned that she used ProofMaker to get her images ready for online galleries. I shelved that until a few weeks ago when I had three client galleries to get online, and pack up our family for a trip to Michigan. My head was spinning.

So I went online to check out Mike D’s products. I was very impressed. Mike is not only great at answering your questions, but he provides detailed documentation on how to load the scripts and use them. Each time I had a questions or issue, he was there and responded within hours, which for a one man show is pretty impressive.

These two programs have really helped me to speed up my workflow. In addtion to Proof Maker he also has another program called Autoloader. At this point I don’t know what has helped my workflow more, the proof maker or the autoloader. Next week I will go into more detail about each of these products!

Mike Fulton, Dave Junion and the entire gang at the After Dark Workshop recently sent me the link to their website. I love how they have tailored the site to work for something other then a standard photography business. It shows just how versatile our websites can be.

I was looking through their list of mentors and the list is AMAZING. These are industry leaders from all over the country and they are putting together an affordable and amazing event. The list of mentors is being updated constantly, so check the site for the latest list. They have over forty mentors. Here is just a sample of the photographers you will get a chance to work with at this event:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the new FlashPalette blog! We are thrilled to have a new, fresh look and to be able to better showcase our new sites and products. The blog is about 99% done, so if you see a few things that seem “off”, not to worry as it will be complete very soon!

Many new changes have taken place here at FP in the last few months. I am happy to introduce myself as the new Marketing/Creative Director for FlashPalette. My name is Jodi Bell, and I have (combined) 12 years of marketing and design experience that I am thrilled to bring to FlashPalette. Many of you may already know me from having logos, etc. designed by me, so hello to all of you! Aside from overseeing all designs of new sites for FlashPalette, anything marketing related will come to me whether it’s tradeshow info, sponsorship info, advertising, etc. You can reach me at jodi@flashpalette.com.

We are working our fingers to the bone on some new sites as well, so keep your eyes peeled! Can I just say that there is some GREAT stuff to come? You will love them!

Our support team is one of the best out there, so anytime you have a question, feel free to email Shannon at shannon@flashpalette.com, or Frances at support@flashpalette.com. They can get you taken care of, and quickly! All of our contact info is also on our “Contact the Team” page.

So set your bookmarks, and stay a while. We love having you!
