Tech Thursday – Reposted.

This week I am going to talk about what to do to restore your website files when your computer crashes or the files get corrupted and you can’t open the site.

Just like you do with all of your other critical documents, you should always back up your site. However, if you haven’t, you can still restore the site files on your local drive to match the site files on your web host.

Here is what you need to do:
1.      Reinstall the editor on your computer.  The most difficult part of the process is figuring out what version of the edit you’re using. Once you figure that out, you can download and reinstall the editor. To figure out which version of the editor check out the images below.

Old Style Editors will look simiar to this  - Download here

New Editors will look similar to this –Download Here

2.      Locate your site files. If you have them on a back up disc or drive you will just need to load them on your computer.  If you do not have a back up, you can retrieve them from your web host.  To do this you would just do the reverse of loading the files on your site. You move them from the right hand or server side of your screen to the local or left hand side of your screen.
3.      Once your have your site files on your local computer, open the editor. Select the option to open existing or open site. The option to open site in the editor is only available in the older editors.
4.      If you have not backed up the license code, please e-mail support with the following information so that we may send the code to you again:

                      a.       Full Name
                      b.      URL of site registered
                      c.       E-mail to which the site was registered
